ImogenRoy.com Privacy Policy

I know that privacy policies aren’t particularly exciting, and sorry, this is no exception. But it is really important. It explains how I use the data you share - some of which you might not even know you provide – when you use this website.

I’ve tried to make it as simple and as easy to understand as possible, but if, after reading this, you have a question or two, please just get in touch.

This privacy policy sets out how Imogen Roy and her company Conseil du Roy, registered in France with SIREN 844 825 034, uses and protects any personal information.

This policy relates to my website:  www.imogenroy.com. I am only responsible for this website, so if you click on a link that takes you to another website, you should read their privacy policy.

Imogen Roy may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes. This policy is effective from 9th December 2019.

Why is this privacy policy important?

Have you heard of GDPR? It stands for General Data Protection Regulation, and it came into force across the EU in May 2018, acting as a modern law to protect the personal information of individuals, i.e. you.  In terms of this regulation though, what you need to know is that we are responsible for deciding how and why we store your information and what it is used for.

If you want to contact me about this policy, email hello (at) imogenroy.com.

Definitions

For the purposes of this policy, I refer to ‘personal data’ as meaning information that can identify you. This might be your name, telephone number or email address. If you could be identified from this information, you are called the ‘data subject’.

Should you be asked to provide certain personal data when using this website, for instance when submitting a form or subscribing to my newsletter, you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

What personal data I collect and why I collect it

As you could reasonably expect, a lot of the data we collect is information you actively give us. For example, when you fill in a form or a comment on our website or register to work with me, you supply me with information about you. This might include your name, email address and phone number.

When I might contact you

I may contact you by email and let you know about updates, offers or send you my newsletter. I only do this if you have agreed to receive emails from us by subscribing or signing up to a free event.

My email marketing messages are created and sent through ConvertKit – an email marketing service (EMS) provider. This is a third-party service provider of software that securely stores data and allows me to send emails to different lists of contacts. These emails may contain tracking beacons or similar technologies to track subscriber activity, such as whether a contact has opened the email and clicked on any links. This information helps me to review and improve my emails so that they’re as relevant and useful as possible to you.

Any email marketing messages we send are in accordance with the GDPR. You can withdraw your consent (unsubscribe) or manage your preferences / the information we hold about you at any time. These instructions are at the bottom of our emails, which is standard practice.

If you become a client, I will obviously contact you by email to arrange appointments and where necessary, follow-up on payment transactions. I need to do this to be able to deliver the service you have paid for.

Cookies (sadly not the edible kind)

Like most companies, I use cookies on this website to improve your experience of using my website.

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. As a rule, cookies will make your browsing experience better. However, you may prefer to disable cookies on this site and on others. The most effective way to do this is to disable cookies in your browser. We suggest consulting the Help section of your browser or taking a look at the About Cookies website which offers guidance for all modern browsers.

Embedded content from other websites

I sometimes include embedded content, e.g. videos from YouTube. This content behaves in the same way as if the visitor has visited the hosting website and so may collect data, use cookies or embed third-party tracking to monitor your interactions with the embedded content. I don’t have control over this.

How long I retain your data

I only keep your personal data as long as I need to, which may depend on the type of data I hold. For example, if you are an email subscriber who has gone ‘cold’ for over one year, your data will be deleted from my database.

What rights you have over your data

You have the right to:

  • Ask for details or the actual personal data I hold about you

  • Update or edit personal data about you that you think is not accurate

  • Ask me to stop processing your personal data

  • Have your personal data permanently removed from my records. Please note though that this doesn’t include data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

If you have any questions or requests about your personal data, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I will try to complete your request as soon as possible.

Phew, that’s the end of my privacy policy! May I suggest you head over to my blog for some content that’s a little more stimulating?
